Well used, and well loved!
Overall this is an EXCELLENT controller. This has one of the best D-Pads I have ever used. I initially got this controller for speedrunning Links Awakening DX. In LADX there is a technique called Super Jumping where you clip into a wall, hold toward the wall, jump, and then push away from the wall to trick the game into thinking you are jumping off a ledge and disable your collision. The problem with this trick is that you have to go straight from holding towards the wall to going directly away from the wall. On my previous controllers this was nearly impossible as any diagonal input would make you unable to perform a super jump, and going from straight in one direction to the complete opposite direction made it very difficult to not accidentally do a diagonal input. This controller worked flawlessly for super jumps and it has been my goto D-Pad controller ever since. I eventually got really into srb2kart which is a kart racer (similar to mario kart) made in the doom engine. I am very much a D-Pad player when it comes to kart racer ever since Mario Kart DS and as a result this became my goto controller for that game. Over the several years I have had this thing it has performed exceptionally well. I assure you the wear on the B button in this photo is well earned. I have used this controller a lot. The only noteworthy issue I have with this controller is with comfort. The D-Pad does take a bit of force to push and the underside of the controller where the handles connect to the base can dig into your middle fingers if you are gripping your controller too tight. If you are playing more action oriented games like a racer there may be more comfortable options out there.

This controller is good for any kind of retro gaming. Of course it's made for Pokken Tournament, but it's a wired USB controller so it is compatible with other things as well. The ergonomics of this controller are great, the handles feel nice and the L and R shoulder buttons feel nice since they're pretty large. The dpad and buttons are good, nothing feels cheap here. The price is surprisingly good at only 18 dollars. The Wii U version is still around 35 dollars, and as far as I know they are the same exact thing except this one is for Switch. I tested it on Pokken Tournament for Wii U just to see if it's the same as the Wii U version, it does not work on the Wii U. So this version is made specifically for Switch. This works on PC, steam recognizes it as a switch pro controller natively and you can customize the buttons that are available on the controller as you'd like. It works on RetroPie as well. I can see people wanting to pick this up for SNES emulation, and for that it works very well.

To start off, this controller is pretty comfortable and great for playing 2D Platformers on the Switch. I mostly bought this because I was looking for a controller with a good D-Pad and a comfortable grip that could sort of replace my Pro Controller. 2 of the 3 things I was looking for in this controller were met. My major problem with the Pokken controller is that there is no Home or Screenshot button. This means that if you're playing/start a game and want to back out or move on to another one, you would have to switch to another controller defeating the whole purpose (for me) of getting another controller. I see how this wouldn't be a problem if P1 is using say a pro controller and P2 was using this but for Solo play it's disappointing that theres no home button. Also ZL and ZR are now buttons instead of triggers so some games like Hollow Knight (where you cant rebind buttons) can be a real pain to play. I get that this was specifically made for Pokken but a lot of people suggested that this was also a great controller with a D-pad to the horrible D-Pads Nintendo has brought with the Switch.

I will preface this with the fact that I played games a LOT to wear this controller out.

I originally bought this controller for retro games on PC, specifically because the d-pad was supposed to be far better than the ones on the other controllers I had. It was, and I was able to play games without getting unwanted up/down inputs for quite a while. Eventually, the d-pad started to get too "soft" and I started getting unwanted up/down inputs, and certain buttons started sticking/not responding properly. For the price, it lasted for a while, but not as long as I would have expected.

The company's customer service is pretty bad. I ed them to try and purchase replacement parts (so I wouldn't have to buy the whole controller), as well as to ask if they knew of any way to help the controller parts last longer in the future. Instead of addressing either of the things I had ed them about, they immediately ignored the reasons I ed them and wanted a receipt or other proof of purchase to warranty status before they would even talk to me. I did not ask for free parts, repair, or replacement, I asked about purchasing the parts. I also asked about the controller model in general, with regard to proper care/maintenance, not about my specific unit. At no point did the warranty status of this controller pertain to this situation, nor is there any question of whether or not they made this controller. When this was pointed out, they completely stopped communicating. This alone is enough to make me refuse to deal with this company ever again.

Before I start, I have a confession to make: I didn't buy this to use with my Switch; I bought it in hopes that it would work with some retro games that I wanted to play on my computer. I plugged it into my PC (running Windows 7) and it immediately recognized it and installed drivers for a 'USB Input Device', and when I pulled it up in one program, it actually showed up as 'POKKEN-CONTROLLER' and worked like a charm (after I mapped the controls to it, of course).

Really, I have nothing to truly complain about so far, especially for the low price; I mean, sure, it's a very lightweight, hollow controller, and I'm not the biggest fan of the shiny plastic look (fingerprint magnet, anyone?), but the ergonomics are solid and everything is responsive. I doubt I could find something at this price point that compares, and I'm sorely tempted to buy another while it's this cheap, just in case I want another a few years from now and there's none to be found for not-ridiculously-inflated prices (looking at you, Xbox 360 wired controller!).

5.0 out of 5 stars This is the best controller for playing retro games on the switch.

I use this controller for playing and speedrunning retro games in NES Online on Switch and I think it's the best option for this purpose. The D-pad works well unlike the Pro Controller D-pad, and it is wired-only so you don't have bluetooth connection problems or issues with the cable coming out. The diagonals work better than the 8Bitdo and overall I think it's pretty much perfect, only think that's missing is a home button to get to the main Switch menu, have to use a different controller for that.

Really good controller for the price. Perfect for NES/SNES Online and Super Mario Maker 2.

Be aware that there are no Share/Home buttons, nor there are joypads/6-axis movement, and that the ZL/ZR are on the front of the controller. I was fully aware of it when I purchased it, but some may not like this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Buena opción de control para una selección algo limitada de juegos por no contar con analog stick.
Reviewed in Mexico on October 24, 2018

5.0 out of 5 stars Top für Games wie Brawlhalla

Nach anfänglichen Gewöhnungsproblemen und der kurzzeitigen Nutzung des "Hori Fighting Commander" bin ich nun schon seit fast 6 Jahren super zufriedener Nutzer des "Hori Nintendo Switch Pokken Tournament DX Pro Pad Wired Controller". WAS EIN NAME :-)

Klare Empfehlung!
